Emojipedia recommends more ginger ‘hairmoji flexibility’ needed in redhead emojis

While it’s true that the entire redhead community initially rejoiced at the inclusion of ginger emojis late last month, what shortly followed was a flurry of frustration and disappointment. The characters didn’t come in all the different expressions that other hair colours have – we only got one choice of expression for male and female…

Gingers weren’t the only ones to notice this. Jeremy Burge, Editor in Chief of Emojipedia, explained in his blog ‘Redheads: Is This It?’, that the addition of red hair was a complicated one due to the number of skin colour options.

Instead, Burge suggests that the following could be a possibility somewhere down the road…

He wrote: “And you know what? That looks pretty cool. I bet people would love this.

“The good news for those looking for increased hairmoji flexibility is that the above mockup showing 26 variations of 💁‍♀️ Woman Tipping Hand (52 if including a the 💁‍♂️ Man Tipping Hand, or 78 if including a gender inclusive option as well) are technically possible in future due to the way new hair colors have been implemented in the Unicode standard.”

But it all comes down to priorities. There’s a hell of a lot of emoji requests out there, and what comes first?

Having Emojipedia fight our corner for ginger hairmoji (great word) flexibility is definitely a step in the right direction, so hopefully more exciting things are to come for redhead emojis. The question is, how long will it take?
