I’ve met a lot of people who believe that Christina Hendricks is a natural redhead. I get it; she has porcelain skin and her roots never show, but we know better, don’t we?
In fact, the Mad Men star admitted in an interview with Radio Times that she can thank the red hair dye bottle for standing out through her successful career.
She said: “When I first started modelling I was blonde. Then I got a job and they wanted to do my hair bright red. I’d always wanted to, but the head of my agency was like, ‘You look terrible, it’s so ugly, you cannot have red hair’.”
Eurgh, WHAT! Naughty head-of-agency person. Can anyone else sense jealousy here?
Christina continued: “I came back as a redhead and couldn’t get my hair back to blonde for two days – in the meantime I had to audition. I booked two or three jobs, because there were a lot fewer redheads than blondes, and I was like, this is working for me, I’m keeping this!”
Too right she did. Christina is possibly the most popular ginger actress on the box these days, landing television awards left, right and centre, plus it doesn’t take a genius to work out that red hair makes you stand out in a crowded room – we all know the feeling!
“People remember you when there’s a sea of faces. It helps.”
Amen to that.
