How redheads should protect their skin in winter

Ginger Parrot is ready and raring to report on all…
It is widely known amongst dermatologists, that cold weather can often cause itchy skin and dry skin. Winter weather can also make fine lines and wrinkles appear more prominent.
According to dermatologist Dr Kiracofe: “You don’t need to change every product you use, but you should switch to heavier creams when it’s cold.”
Another problem for redheads is snow. Snow reflects the sunlight, so no matter how cold it may be, the pesky UV rays are still out to get us!
As redheads are at a higher risk of skin cancer, wearing your spf is the best form of protection all year round. Yep, even in colder months.
You may have thought that winter might put your SPF-wearing days on hold, but I’m afraid not. Yes, being in the sun should not make you anxious, but while the sun may not be as strong as during the summer months, but those pesky rays are still a danger to your delicate skin.
Beware of the reflective snow, fellow redheads! If the sun is shining, even if the weather isn’t warm, our pale skin is still able to burn, so please don’t neglect your SPF protection this winter.
I don’t know about you, but wearing spf every day doesn’t bother me, it makes me shine!
Here are some of the best ways that you can look after your skin in winter:
1. Moisturise daily
You should moisturise your skin thoroughly, to keep it from cracking and getting dry – an oil-based moisturiser is best.
Using a moisturiser that contains a spf of 15 and above, is the best way to stay protected against UV rays!
2. Limit use of hot water
In winter, you should limit using hot water on your face. As tempting as it is, to submerge your face into a hot flannel, like cold weather, hot water can dry out your skin.
After washing your face with luke-warm water, you should pat your skin dry with a towel.
3. Self-steam
Steaming your skin is a great way to rid your pores from bacteria’s. After filling a bowl with warm water, put a towel over your head and lean your face towards the bowl. The steam will do the work for you!
4. Avoid soap
While soap is needed for washing your skin, you should invest in a face wash that is not invasive or fragranced as it can do more damaged to your pores – especially if they have become dry in the cold weather!
5. Wrap up!
It goes without saying, that hats, thick socks and gloves are a must in extremely cold temperatures! But the same goes for your face.
In winter, to protect your skin from the harsh cold weather, you should wear a thick scarf that wraps around your neck and covers as much of your face as possible!
A snood, also known as a knitted hood, is a perfect way to protect your face from cold weather!
