‘Red hair, and a hand-me-down robe…’ – The Weasley’s are back on Netflix
Ginger Parrot is ready and raring to report on all…
Calling all Harry Potter fans out there! Look, we won’t judge if one of the Weasley’s isn’t your favourite character… but come on… there are SO many to choose from!
They are probably the most iconic redheaded characters of all time… forget Brave, Poison Ivy, and The Little Mermaid. It is my pleasure, to introduce to you, the Weasley family…
Mrs Weasley
First things first, let’s focus on the real face of the family.
Molly Weasley is the matriarch of the ginger brood. She married Arthur Weasley and is the sibling of two original members of the Order of the Phoenix. Now, if you are a Harry Potter fanatic already, you will know about the badass Order that plot against Voldemort and The Death Eaters.
We are first introduced to her helping her children gather their essential items before they start a new year at Hogwarts. Molly is a strict mother, keeping her 7 children in check. Her most iconic moment was when she sent a Howler to Ron in film no.2, Harry Potter and The Chamber of Secrets, after he crashed his father’s car.
She is a talented witch, who is feisty but loving at the same time – regularly referring to the children as ‘dear’. She takes Harry under her wing, buying him Christmas gifts and letting him stay at ‘the Burrow’ during the term breaks. She embodies the stereotypical maternal mother. And yes… She is my favourite of the bunch.
Ronald Weasley
Ron, as you may already know, is one of the three musketeers – best friends with Hermione and Harry throughout the sequel. He is the youngest son of the family. Ron is cheeky, funny, and a little dopey at times. He is loyal and takes pride in his close relationship with his family. His family are known for having little money, due to being such a big family – which is where the iconic ‘red hair and a hand-me-down robe… must be a Weasley’ quote comes from.
Ron is well known for the phrase ‘Bloody Hell’, which he regularly uses to express himself in any shocking situation. He is not the best at magic, to say the least, but he is a Wizards Chess champion.
Fred Weasley and George Weasley
The iconic identical twins. Which one is which? I am still not sure. They are known for being the biggest pranksters. They often pretend to be one and other, testing their mother to see if she can tell the difference – and no, she can’t. They are comical and mischievous… but they are also brave – ready for any battle that comes their way.
The twins own a joke shop located in Diagon Alley, called ‘Weasleys’ Wizard Wheezes’. The joke shop sells all sorts of products like: Extendable ears, love potions, and puking pastels. In the third film, the twins get their hands on ‘The Marauder’s Map’. This map of Hogwarts reveals the footprints of anyone, at any time. All you need to say are the famous words: ‘I solemnly swear that I am up to no good’.
Mr Weasley
Arthur Weasley is the loving husband of Molly Weasley, and father to the 7 children. He is the more lenient parent, often showing his interest in his children’s mischievous antics. He is an employee of the Ministry of Magic, and a member of the second Order of the Phoenix. He is protective of his family and their reputation. Like his wife, Arthur also takes Harry under his wing – often informing him of his past and potential dangers that may be heading his way.
William “Bill” Weasley
“Bill” Weasley is the oldest of the Weasley clan. After he graduated from Hogwarts, he went to work at Gringotts Wizarding Bank as a Curse-Breaker in Egypt. He only appears in three of the films, often accompanying his mother to celebrations and tournaments. His most memorable moment was when he married Fleur Delacour in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1.
Charlie Weasley
Charlie Weasley, the second born son, does not appear in any of the films. However, in The Goblet of Fire movie, he provided Hogwarts with dragons to use in the Triwizard Tournament. Ron reveals that his brother studies dragons in Romania.
Ginny Weasley
Ginny is her mother’s little princess. She has had a crush on Harry since she laid eyes on him as a young child in the first film, Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s stone. She is the only girl, out of the seven Weasley children. She is shy, and quiet until provoked – similar to her mother. She is a good witch and becomes a brave member of the second Order of the Phoenix.
Percy Weasley
Percy is the goody-two-shoes of the family. As you can guess, Ron finds him highly irritating. He is full of pride in his achievements, which is shown in his arrogance. He is a Prefect, and the Head Boy of Gryffindor House. He takes his role very seriously and is often seen leading his large group of students to their dormitories.
Where to watch?
The Harry Potter movie sequel has recently been added to Netflix in the UK and the US. Yes, all of the 8 movies are there for you to watch.
