Natural hair oils: which one should redheads be using?

Ginger Parrot is ready and raring to report on all…

Coconut oil
Coconut oil is one of the most commonly used hair oils, simply because it is natural, cheap to buy and easy to find. Coconut oil is best for repairing already damaged hair and broken strands. It’s also fabulous for your skin!
This oil is best for thicker hair that often looks frizzy or dry, because it focuses on strengthening, softening and making your hair shine.
For those of you who live in the city, where the air is often drier and smokier, coconut oil is also great at helping to protect your hair from environmental damage.
Almond or Argan oil
According to many hair experts, almond and Argan oils are the best oils to use on your hair if you want to promote hair growth. It’s got to be worth a try then, hasn’t it?
Olive oil
If you are prone to split ends or have a sensitive scalp, olive oil is known to target scalp inflammation. It is also said to boost hair growth and to prevent hair fall.
Sesame oil
If you are someone that styles your hair using heat a lot, give sesame oil a try.
Sesame oil is great for achieving the classic soft and hydrated hair look, but it is also useful for shielding your red hair from the negative effects of repeat heated grooming – like strand breakage or split ends.
Jojoba oil
For my fellow dry scalpers, jojoba oil is the most recommended natural oil that tackles dry skin on the scalp.
Jojoba oil, native to Mexico, also contains antioxidants that protect your hair from repeat brushing. So, to all the redheaded hair stylers out there, use jojoba!
How should you use natural hair oils?

Remember to wash it out:
Depending on how heavy the oil is, and what your hair texture is like, you should wash out the oil from your hair after a period of it sitting.
For example, for those with thinner hair types, you should apply the oil to scalp and hair and leave to soak for 30 minutes or less. For those with thicker hair types, leave the oil in for a longer period of time to get the most nourishment. However, to avoid blocking your hair follicles, make sure you wash the oil treatment off of your hair within 4 hours.
According to experts at Tholu Hair Beauty, while your hair is likely to benefit from using an overnight oil treatment, “you don’t just carry out overnight hair oil treatment without expert advice”.
According to the hair experts, you should wash the oil from your hair before sleeping “because some oil ingredients can make your hair heavier and expose it to damages so, keeping these oils longer on your hair especially overnight isn’t advised”.
Don’t forget about the ends of your hair:
While trying to better your red hair, you should also keep in mind that the ends of your hair need oiling too!
Another mistake that people make is focusing on nourishing their scalp.
Although applying a natural hair oil to your scalp is great for boosting growth, alleviating dandruff and healing scalp inflammation, working an oil into the bottom of your hair will help to eliminate frizziness, add shine and rid you of split ends.
Keeping your hair healthy is so important. Jessica Walker, the Founder of J. Walker Salon Group even said it herself: “Our hair dictates so much of our confidence and how we feel inside and out.”
But most importantly, healthy red hair contributes to boosting ginger pride.
And come on, couldn’t everyone do with a little more ginger pride in 2024?!
