How to find the best SPF foundation for redheads with fair skin
Ginger Parrot is ready and raring to report on all…
First of all, not everyone with fair skin will have blue undertones. In the same way people with fair skin aren’t necessarily pale, people with fair skin can have different undertones, such as cool, warm, or neutral.
It’s important to identify your undertones, so that you can choose a foundation that complements you and your skin tone. For redheads with cool undertones, you may notice that you have pink or blue hues.
For redheads with warm undertones, you may have noticed that you have yellow or golden hues. Redheads with neutral undertones, have a balance of both warm and cool tones.
Find your undertones:
To find out which undertones you have, look at the veins in your wrist:
Green = warm
Blue = cool
Prioritise SPF:
We have said it once, and we will not stop saying it! Wear SPF whether you’re a redhead that cooks in the sun or not!
A great way to incorporate SPF into your morning skin routine, is to choose a foundations that already contains SPF protection. Those pesky UV rays can still reach you on cloudy days!
However, keep in mind that SPF in make-up may not be sufficient for full sun protection, depending on the UV strength, especially for those of us with fair skin anyway. If you are going to be exposed to the sun for a long period of time, it is important that you apply additional sun cream to your skin.
Find your perfect shade of foundation:
This goes without saying, you should always try to find a shade that closely matches your skin tone. But, I understand how hard it can be to find the perfect match for pale skin.
Testing the foundation on your jawline, the back of your hand or even your neck, can help you determine if the shade blends seamlessly with your skin tone.
This is also a great way to see if you have any immediate reactions or sensitivities to the foundation formula.
Look for a long-lasting, lightweight, buildable formula:
Long-wearing foundations are great for nights out and for getting your money’s worth. These long-lasting products are also great for active members of the less than 2% club, because they will be able to withstand humidity, sweat and any oiliness that you might experience throughout the day.
Look for a lightweight formula that provides a little bit of coverage without feeling heavy on the skin. If you have fair skin, unfortunately heavy formulas can often appear cakey and unnatural. You also don’t want to hide any unique freckles or beauty spots, so finding something with sheer coverage is much more natural-looking.
Foundations that boast buildable coverage are great for fair and pale skin types, because they allow you to customise your own level of coverage. This allows you to achieve a natural look or a more glamorous look for celebratory events.
Choosing a matte / dewy finish:
Consider whether you prefer a matte or dewy finish. This all depends on your skin type and personal preference. The dewy “glazed donut” look is very in right now, just saying.
For those with already shiny skin, matte foundations can help control the oiliness of your pores. But dewy foundations however, can create a radiant glow for this with dry skin. Trust me, it’s a game changer.
Look at the labels:
If your skin is sensitive or prone to acne, you should look for foundations that have been labeled as hypoallergenic and non-comedogenic, if possible. These formulas are less likely to cause irritation or block pores on your face, making sure that your skin looks and feels healthy all day long.

The Shiseido Synchro Skin Radiant Lifting Foundation is great for the redheads with fair skin because it contains SPF 30. The product comes in 18 different shades and is great for drier skin types.
