The full story of The Gingerbread Man

“Run, run as fast as you can! You can’t catch me, I’m the Gingerbread Man.”

Unfortunately for them, in our opinion, nothing makes us feel more festive than eating gingerbread in the run up to Christmas.

Ginger is obviously a huge, if not massive, part of a redhead’s identity. I’d like to think, that when people see the word ginger, they think of us, instead of the herb or gingerbread biscuits.

Usually people view Christmas as a time for good food, family time, celebrations of life and gift giving. But something else happens at Christmas which is commonly overlooked. People gather together, yes, but what do they do?

They recall old memories and most importantly, they tell stories!

So, as a story from us to all of the little redheads out there, here is a little reminder of the festive tale:

The Gingerbread Man

Like many fairytales, ‘The Gingerbread Man’ is full of magic. And here’s how it goes…

An elderly couple, who had been married for what felt like 100 years, were sat quietly in their home. Their house was located in the middle of the countryside, without any neighbour for company.

On a cold winter’s day, the little old lady found herself a little peckish and bored. So naturally, she decided to bake some gingerbread.

While rolling out the dough, the old lady decided to have some fun. She cut the biscuit into the shape of a little man – a gingerbread man!

She decided to use icing to create eyes and a big wide smile. Next, she used chocolate drops to add some buttons.

The next step was to put the gingerbread man in the oven. While she waited for him to bake, the little old lady returned to her rocking chair.

A little over 10 minutes later, the little old lady opened the oven and… Well, she could not believe her eyes!

The gingerbread man jumped out of the oven and started running away!

“Don’t eat me!”, he yelled as he headed out of the door.

The little old lady woke up the little old man, who had fallen asleep while reading his newspaper, and the pair chased after the gingerbread man.

While running down the country lane and into the woods, the gingerbread man started to sing: “Run, run as fast as you can! You can’t catch me, I’m the gingerbread man!”

A little while later, the gingerbread man ran past a pig. The pig was very hungry indeed, and he tried to eat the gingerbread man, but he was just too fast.

“Run, run as fast as you can! You can’t catch me, I’m the gingerbread man,” he shouted again.

Next, the gingerbread man met a very lazy cow. The cow was very hungry too, so he joined the chase – along with the little old lady, the little old man, and the very hungry pig.

But the gingerbread man was still too fast.

As he ran past the very lazy cow, the gingerbread man started to sing again.

“Run, run as fast as you can! You can’t catch me, I’m the gingerbread man!”

While he was running through the forest, the gingerbread man ran into a really tall horse. The horse took one look at the gingerbread man and licked his lips.

Before the gingerbread man could say anything, the horse joined in with the chase, behind the little old lady, the little old man, the very hungry pig and the very lazy cow.

“Oh no!” the Gingerbread Man shouted.

While he was looking behind him, at the very hungry humans and animals, the gingerbread man almost ran right into a river.

“Hmmm”, the gingerbread man thought.

“If I can cross this river, then they won’t be able to eat me and I will be free.”

But, a very sly fox who had been watching the gingerbread man running away, walked up and scared the gingerbread man.

“Climb on to back and I will swim us across the river,” the sly fox said.

So, the gingerbread man did.

“Wait,” shouted the sly fox.

“Climb on to my head instead,” the sly fox insisted.

So, the gingerbread man did.

“Wait,” shouted the sly fox.

“Climb on to my nose instead,” the sly fox demanded.

So, the gingerbread man did.

When they had finally reached the other side of the river, the sly fox quickly tossed the gingerbread man into the air and caught him in his mouth.

The sly fox gobbled the gingerbread man all up and said: “He may not be smarter than me, but he was delicious!”

The End.
