Are You Vincent Van Gogh’s Ginger Lookalike?

Assuming that all ginger men look like Vincent van Gogh might seem like a generalisation, but if anyone has a shot of finding the artist’s real-life doppelgänger, we sure can!

Canadian novelist and artist Douglas Coupland, best known for his novel Generation X, is on the hunt for the world’s closest lookalike of Van Gogh to model for a large bronze sculpture of his head.

It’s all part of a genetics and globalisation project on ‘Redheads‘. Coupland explained to the Guardian that having natural red hair is “the most recent successful human mutation”.

“There is no way of telling when a gene is going to change and what sort of characteristic it will bring about. This genetic magic is a microcosm of the way in which all life on earth changes with time.”

You might think that being immortalised in bronze for eternity was amazing enough. Not only that, but Van Gogh’s long lost twin will also receive a €5,000 cash prize to fly to Canada to be 3D-scanned for the 3m-tall sculpture, which Coupland hopes will be the first of many redhead sculptures in a series.

He continued: “I’m learning that most people have someone in their life who looks like Vincent van Gogh. It could be your next-door neighbour. It could be a guy at work. It could be you.”
