Why being ginger during summer is great

Summer is here and it’s full on! With the rising temperatures, overloads of sunshine and the increased hours of daylight, it’s hard to stay inside and not enjoy this beautiful season, right?

If you’re a redhead, who spends their summer days hiding away in the shade, you might think otherwise.

For gingers, summer brings along that big fear of getting to look like something that would give a full-ripe tomato a run for its money.

Personally, I think that being blessed with natural red hair actually gives you some extra reasons to make summer your new favourite season – or at least not as bad as you thought it would be.

No tan troubles

Think about it this way, you can enjoy your summer days without setting any golden tan expectations. Unlike your friends, you don’t have that constant urge to tan as soon as the first UV rays appear.

You can pack your suitcase in style, there is no need to worry about what skin tone would look best with which colour.

Your summer holiday can be exactly what it needs to be, a HOLIDAY, because in the land of gingerness, there is no such thing as the perfect tan. Or, perhaps, any tan at all.

In fact, unless you’re one of those weird and wonderful gingers who can tan, buy yourself a gradual tan moisturiser and get to the ice cream parlour! Tanning moisturisers are great, they keep your skin smooth and undamaged, and free up time for holiday activities – such as going into the city or drinking aperol spritz (duh).

Additionally, every little tiny bit of tan or new freckles that you do somehow manage to get, is a huge accomplishment – what others won’t even notice, will make your day!

Also while your friends are bragging about their new tans, you can walk around with a freckled face, silky smooth skin, and absolutely NO TAN LINES.

Social and sand free

Flame-haired pale beauties have the perfect excuse to avoid icky, gritty, uncomfortable sandy experiences.

But if you’re out in the city, you get to avoid having sand in absolutely every crevice of your body and bag.

Look at it this way, having spent the day out of the sun and with the locals, you will be feeling sand-free and refreshed when it comes to venturing out in the evening!

Also, when you are out in the city, you get to spend your time learning about cultures, drinking aperol spritz, and have the opportunity to meet the most amazing people!

The conversation will most likely start with something about you being a redhead and how our genetics are not made for warm weather, but who cares! Just swiftly change the subject, learn about the area and find some common ground!

You’ll probably meet a friendly face and they’ll give you some great recommendations. Who doesn’t love some spontaneous adventure?!

(P.S. The common law of stranger danger should always be followed. Have fun, but stay safe!)

Fashionista

Summer is the perfect time for redheads to cover up in fashionable clothes and items to protect our precious pale skin.

Where others go for the obvious combo of hot pants and tank top, you will not only be dressed to the nines, but you will also be protected against those big, bad, harmful UV rays at the same time. No sunburn, and the added extra of healthy skin for the long term.. double win!

These days, the bohemian holiday look is the ONE. So why not keep cool and look cool all at the same time…

So, bring out those huge sunglasses, your oversized hat and your cute UV awareness bracelet, because summer is really not that bad for redheads. And did I mention aperol spritz?
