People may say that gingers are a dying breed, but we’re most definitely not listening. And the so-called extinction of redheads definitely wasn’t evident in Portland last weekend, as the Redhead Event gathered together approximately 1,600 naturally red-haired beings.
And FYI, if this number is confirmed, that means the world record has been smashed once again, previously set by Redhead Days in Breda, Holland, by myself plus 1,254 others in 2012.

To be taken seriously as an authentic copper top, participants wearing white t-shirts were required to present a photo of themselves as ickle childhood gingers.
The ‘sea of red’ assembled for a group photo at Pioneer Courthouse Square for 10 minutes, reclaiming their previously set Guinness World record of 890 redheads in one place back in 2010.
All in the name of charity (and ginger pride), the event was organised to help raise funds for the Skin Cancer Foundation.
But, the question poses itself: “Will Redhead Days 2013 take back the world record on 1st September in Breda?” We’ll let you know, as we report from the event next weekend. Let us know if you’ll be there too!
