We are pleased to tell you that a lovely handful of our ginger faves are showing their animal-friendly side this month, teaming up and putting their red heads to good use to raise money for the critically endangered Sumatran orangutan.
The Sumatran Orangutan Society’s (SOS) Jungle VIP Auction is an eBay event taking place March 1st to 11th, selling off items donated by such redheaded celebs as Chris Evans, Geri Halliwell, Anne Robinson and Nicola Roberts, raising money to support the charity’s work to protect the Sumatran species and its habitat.
There are treats ahoy on offer at the eBay page. Ginger funny man Tim Minchin has donated a ruffled shirt worn during his ‘Ready For This?’ world tour (mmm, sweaty) while Nicole Kidman has chipped in with a signed Moulin Rouge movie poster.
Tim said: “Orangutans are having their environment destroyed in a way that doesn’t need to happen and that is completely short-sighted. I do think it would be heart-breaking for humanity if we lost them.” Too right, Timothy.
And our darling Miss Roberts is feeling the ginger love too: “Any small thing you can do, any small gesture, will make a difference. And if lots of people get involved that will make a huge difference.”
Items are being auctioned via www.ebay.co.uk/JungleVIP between March 1st and 11th. If you fancy, you can also auction your own items! Failing that, it’s easy (and cool) enough to just buy a ginger-friendly t-shirt for £12, with all proceeds going to SOS.
Whoever knew that orangutans share 96.4% of our DNA?
Bless all the gingers: orangutans and humans!
